How to get to CODA (Formerly known as THE VENUE)

CODA is situated in the centre of Preston, and as such is within it's (not too frightening) one way system.

Although it's address is Church Row, this is a little confusing as it is on the corner of where two short roads merge to make the also very short Chuch Row - these being:

This all probably sounds confusing, but it's not too bad. Firstly check the Google Map. This is pretty accurate, just sadly it seems to point to the building across the road from CODA!?

By Bus/Coach

By Bus/Coach, it's a doddle, as it's right next to the Bus Station (South End, not the North which has the big Holiday Inn Hotel)

National Express run services from all over the UK to Preston Bus Station, and their connections are pretty much all through the night and day - so if you are travelling in you could likely get a coach back at say 2am or 3am. Prices vary but as The Venue is so close to the Bus Station this could be a great option.

Megabus can be even cheaper if you are lucky enough to be on one of their routes. London to Preston return for example can be as little as £5-£10 if you book in advance!!

By Car

You can also very easily park your car on the multi-storey car park above the big huge bus station, but below are two better parking alternatives.

The odd thing is, if you're coming by car, you don't really want to exactly 'Sat Nav' your way right to the postcode PR1 3BX as this will bring you to the front of CODA through the one way system, where you can't park! And even though theres an NCP car park right next to it, theres a No-Entry sign stopping you getting to it!

the No Entry problem to get to the Car Park if approaching down Tithebarn Street/Church Row, or Lord's Walk/Church Row

SO ..... here are some old fashioned directions that will take you to either this very handy NCP car park, or a parking space that we use that dosn't charge - that is right at the very back of CODA - but is 'unofficial' and is a company car park that WILL clamp you if you park there in the day time - but seems to (so far) be fine with people parking there after hours.

Below, are a series of directions for getting you to these car parks.

From Junction 31 of the M6/A59 (The Tickled Trout Hotel)

1. Head into Preston on A59/Preston New Rd
Continue to follow A59
past the cemetary on your right
Go through 1 roundabout
Onto New Hall Lane (still the A59)
(2.0 mi)

2. At the end of New Hall Lane, at the traffic lights, turn right onto the A6/Stanley Street/Ringway and go up this road (approx 472 ft) to the large road junction (traffic lights)

3. Go through the large road junction (with Preston Prison on your right) and get in the left hand lane of the 3 lanes at this junction to be able to turn Left onto Percy St

4. Before you get to the Bus Station, take a left onto Derby St
(138 ft)

5. Turn 1st right at Hammond's Row

From here - drive up and then down the slight hill and there is a company carpark (not connected at all with CODA) on your right.

We've been told by CODA that it seems it is ok to park here after office hours and so far none of us have had problems.

BUT - We must make it VERY clear neither CODA or ourselves can be held resposible for your vehicle and any problems it may encounter parking here!!

If you prefer, take a left instead and park on the NCP car park which is a pay and display.

From Railway Station

On foot it takes about 5-10 minutes walk

You have two options:

  1. Taxi - Taxi Rank just outside the main entrance of Preston Railway Station
  2. Walk - From the station find your way onto the High Street (Fishergate) past the Fishergate and St. George's Shopping Centres, and along past all the shops. This then turns into Church Street (at the Church on your right). Carry on a little further down the hill, and look for The Bus Station on Church Row on your left. CODA is just before it on the right, with lots of graphitti art on the side.

Places to Stay

Thought I'd begin adding hotels and B and B's to here as we do get lots of people travelling into Preston and makes sense to list places close by that are good value and recommended.

Or just as importantly - NOT RECOMMENDED!

If you have any recommendations either way, please let us know and we'll add them to a list below and keep it up-to-date with best places to stay.
